Puerto Rican Sprinter Miles Lewis Gets World Indoor Standard in Final Try at Adam Sanford Pro And Classic

Marco Arop Beats Michael Saruni In High Quality 800 In Armory Meet That Served As A World Indoor Standard "Last Chance"

Miles Lewis of Puerto Rico made use of the opportunity presented by Sunday's Adam Sanford Pro and Classic meet at The Armory in New York. 

Lewis had come to tthe meet seeking at World Indoor qualifying time in the 60 meters (6.63) and had run 6.65 once and 6.64 twice. 

At the Sanford meet, which drew together a collection of athletes seeking World standards and drew heavily from U.S.-based athletes representing other countries, Lewis was able to run three times and hit the standard by winning the Classic division final in 6.61 seconds. 

Earlier, Lewis had won the Pro division, but in 6.64.

Danielle Williams of Jamaica, the 2015 world champion in the 100-meter hurdles, ran 8.00 in the 60 hurdles in her first hurdles race of 2022 and dipped under the standard (8.16).

In a marquee matchup in the men's 800 meters, Canada's Marco Arop defeated Kenya's Michael Saruni, 1:46.66 to 1:47.21. For Arop that was a world championships qualifier (1:46.70).

Khamica Bingham, representing New Balance (and Canada) won the women's Pro 60 meters in 7.20 seconds for a season's best time that also met the World standard. 

Junelle Bromfield won the women's 400 meters (Classic) in 52.69 seconds. The Jamaican had previously run faster this season, 52.40 at Arkansas on Feb. 11, but was still under the standard. 

Laura Galvan won the women's 3,000 meters in 8:45.10, dipping under the standard by nearly four seconds. Galvan, who represents Mexico, has also run faster this winter.
